Editorial Policy & Archival Standards

The principles of documentation, provenance separation and intellectual independence governing our house.

1. Core Philosophy: Documentation Over Opinion

Le Roi du Monde was founded to document the physical, cultural, and landscape heritage of Europe with archival sobriety. We do not rate, rank, score, or award stars to historic buildings or landscapes.

We publish what is historically documented and legally registered, attributing every fact to its original authority.

2. The Five Statements of Provenance

Every statement published across our publications belongs to one of five strictly separated provenance tiers:

  • Official Register Source: National heritage registers (Base Mérimée, Historic England, Rijksmonumentenregister) providing formal protection status, dating, and inventory references.
  • Open Cultural Repositories: Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons providing coordinates, spatial data, and credited imagery under open cultural licences.
  • Owner & Steward Representations: Factual information submitted directly by verified estate owners or custodians through our verification protocol.
  • Editorial Narratives: Monographic essays, glossary definitions, and Grand Tour itineraries composed by our editorial desk.
  • Composed Descriptions: Programmatically assembled factual statements derived strictly from database fields without subjective embellishment.

3. Independence from Commercial Influence

No place or monument can pay to appear in our archives or buy higher visibility. Editorial inclusion is decided solely on historical significance and register documentation.

Le Cercle du Roi professional introductions are maintained separately from the public heritage archives to prevent commercial conflicts of interest.

4. Corrections Protocol

When a factual inaccuracy or licence oversight is discovered, we repair it promptly and transparently. Inquiries and source corrections should be submitted to corrections@leroidumonde.com.
